The Okanagan College Faculty Association is hosting an independent academic conference (to take place May 5th-7th, 2017 in Kelowna, BC) that will explore and publicize the increasingly precarious working conditions faced by many in academia, with a particular focus on non-regular faculty member work conditions in British Columbia.

The conference’s keynote speaker is Dr. Jamie Brownlee, who obtained his PhD in sociology and political economy from Carleton University, where he currently teaches and conducts research in the areas of Canadian and international political economy, higher education, corporate crime, environmental politics and climate change, and access to information law. He is the author of Ruling Canada: Corporate Cohesion and Democracy (2005), Academia, Inc.: How Corporatization is Transforming Canadian Universities (2015), and editor of Access to Information and Social Justice: Critical Research Strategies for Journalists, Scholars, and Activists (2015). Jamie‚Äôs work has also appeared in international academic journals such as Higher Education, Organization & Environment and Paedagogica Historica, and he is a frequent contributor to the Canadian media and popular press.
